1335 Days of Daniel  12
By: David M. Curtis

Brother Hewitt from Dead River was there. He came with a message to the effect that the destruction of the wicked and the sleep of the dead was an abomination within a shut door that a woman, Jezebel, a prophetess had brought in and he believed that I was that woman Jezebel. We told him of some of his errors in the past, that the 1335 days were ended and numerous errors of his. It had but little effect. His darkness was felt upon the meeting and it dragged.  {6MR 251.2}

Brother Hewit taught,
that "the destruction of the wicked and the sleep of the dead was an abomination," and among the errors Sister White addressed which Brother Hewit endorsed was, "
that the 1335 days were ended."

This is the only statement of which Sister White makes mention to the 1335 days.  Since there is no other source to investigate this prophecy in the Spirit of Prophecy we must turn to the Word of God. Let's take a look at the historic Seventh-day Adventist understanding of this prophecy.

historic view
Source: Amazing Facts http://www.amazingfacts.org/images/chart6.gif

The Bible gives this order.
1.1260
2.1290
3.1335

This historic view gives another order.
1. 1290
2. 1260
3. 1335

On what Biblical grounds did the pioneers rearrange this order?

2Pe 1:20  Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

We have prophetic grounds to begin the 1260 years of Daniel 7 and Revelation 12,13 in 538 A.D. and end it in 1798 A.D.

We have prophetic grounds to begin the 70 weeks and the 2300 days in 457 B.C.

We have no prophetic grounds to begin the 1335 days in 508  A.D. No Prophecy of Scripture warrants this to be the start date! Furthermore I find no scriptural, prophetic support of Clovis in 508 A.D.

In 508, Clovis--the king of the Franks--became converted to Catholicism, and conquered the Goths. This gave the papacy supremacy not only in the east, but now also in the west (see 4BC 881).

Nothing historical nor prophetic happened in 1843! Other prophecies give solid support to the 538-1798 dates, Since Adventists are familiar with the 1260 of Daniel 7 and Revelation 13, we automatically concluded that the 1260 of Daniel 12 must be the same 1260 prophetic days -literal years of the dark ages. But then the pioneers were faced with the problem of what to do with the 1290, and 1335. I believe the pioneers searched history for ANYTHING they could find to help make sense to these dates. Clovis's event 30 years before 538 A.D. was the only thing they could find. It did not matter to the pioneers that the 1290 starts AFTER the 1260 in the book of Daniel. They took the 1290 out of the Bible order and rearranged it to make a convenient interpretation.

"Our calculation of the prophetic time was so simple and plain that even children could understand it. From the date of the decree of the king of Persia, found in Ezra 7, which was given in 457 before Christ, the 2300 years of Daniel 8:14 were supposed to terminate with 1843. Accordingly we looked to the end of this year for the coming of the Lord. We were sadly disappointed when the year entirely passed away, and the Saviour had not come.
It was not at first perceived that if the decree did not go forth at the beginning of the year 457 B. C., the 2300 years would not be completed at the close of 1843. But it was ascertained that the decree was given near the close of the year 457 B. C., and therefore the prophetic period must reach to the fall of the year 1844. Therefore the vision of time did not tarry, though it had seemed to do so. We learned to rest upon the language of the prophet: "The vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry." Habakkuk 2:3.
God tested and proved His people by the passing of the time in 1843. The mistake made in reckoning the prophetic periods was not at once discovered, even by learned men who opposed the views of those who were looking for Christ's coming. Scholars declared that Mr. Miller was right in his calculation of the time, though they disputed him in regard to the event that would crown that period. But they, and the waiting people of God, were in a common error on the question of time.
Those who had been disappointed were not long left in darkness; for in searching the prophetic periods with earnest prayer the error was discovered, and the tracing of the prophetic pencil down through the tarrying time. In the joyful expectation of the coming of Christ, the apparent tarrying of the vision had not been taken into account, and was a sad and unlooked-for surprise. Yet this very trial was necessary to develop and strengthen the sincere believers in the truth." -Christian Experience p. 50.

Originally the Millerites believed the 2300 days ended in 1843, so their view of the 1335 ending in 1843 made sense to them at that time.
When William Miller discovered he had neglected to calculate the fact that there is no year between 1 B.C. and 1 A.D. He then learned the date 2300 days ended was actually 1844, and not 1843 at all. Since then no one has even attempted to place an event in 1843 which would correspond with the 1335 days ending that year.  As long as the Millerites believed the 2300 days ended in 1843 they had no need to give another event for that year.  As it stands to this day there is no event given for the year 1843 to close the 1335 days, and we have stuck to this out of the sake tradition.  Since that time the jury has been out on the 1335 days, and it has been taboo to even discuss this prophecy.

Take another look at the above Time Chart by Amazing Facts focusing on 1843. Note there is no event listed for that year. Why could not the prophecy of been a 1333 day prophecy? Nothing happened in 1841 anymore than in 1843 A.D.! Why could not the prophecy have ended at the 1290 year in 1798 since there is nothing of importance in 1843?

One thing significant that failed to happen in 1843 demands for us to re-examine the 1335 days of Daniel 12. Daniel was not resurrected in 1843!!!

Dan 12:12  Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
Dan 12:13  But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.

So far no one has attempted to say that this was merely symbolic of an awakening of our understanding of Daniel in 1843. However allow me to answer this view before it is given opportunity to be circulated. The Millerites were already sharing the prophecies of Daniel before 1843. Our understanding of the Heavenly Sanctuary and the Investigative Judgment did not have its birth in 1843. It was not until after the Great Disappointment of October 22, 1844 that this occurred. Therefore there was no spiritual awakening of the book of Daniel that began in 1843!

Please study the parallels listed below.

Matthew 24

Rev. 6 / Dan. 12

Mat 24:4  And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
Mat 24:5  For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

Mat 24:6  And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
Mat 24:7  For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:

Rev 6:4  And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

Mat 24:7  ... there shall be famines,

Rev 6:5  And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
Rev 6:6  And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

Mat 24:7  ...  and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

Rev 6:8  And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.?

Mat 24:9  Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

Rev 6:9  And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
Rev 6:10  And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
Rev 6:11  And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

Mat 24:15  When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

Dan 12:11  And from the time that the daily shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.  (sacrifice "does not belong to the text"--EW 74)

Mat 24:21  For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

Dan 12:1  And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

Mat 24:22  And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

Dan 12:12  Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.

Mat 24:29  Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Mat 24:30  And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Rev 6:12  And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
Rev 6:13  And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
Rev 6:14  And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
Rev 6:15  And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
Rev 6:16  And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
Rev 6:17  For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

  4. 1335 days - Doug Bachelor ( December 25, 2004)

I received this letter December 31, 2004,

I downloaded and listened to your sermons on 1335 days prophecy. I also have listened to Doug Batchelor's message on this subject as well. This is something I did not know and really opened my eyes. It is very interesting and makes more sense to me than historical view of this prophecy. I do not agree with the author of the Sabbath school lesson who said 'We reject attempts to give these time prophecies a future fulfillment'. Only thing I am concern about this theory is that in Mathew 24:36, Jesus says no one know the day and the hour. But if the government officially declares the national Sunday law, it becomes obvious that we can figure out the time of Jesus' second coming by counting 1335 days from the point of official declaration of Sunday law. Could you respond to my email and tell me what your opinion
is on this?

Happy New Year and May God bless your ministry.

My Response,

Very Good Points!!! Bravo!

There is ONLY ONE event foretold to happen at the end of the 1335 days, and that is NOT the Second Coming. I do not see the 1335 days announcing either the day or the hour of the Second coming. I believe both will remain a mystery after the National Sunday Law. We will know it is near but not the day or the hour.

The event foretold to occur at the close of the 1335 days is A SPECIAL RESURRECTION of which Daniel will be apart!

A Special Resurrection
The Faith I Live by P.182

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Dan. 12:2. (Notice Sister White uses this verse in Daniel 12 to introduce the SPECIAL
RESURRECTION).

It is at midnight that God manifests His power for the deliverance of His people. The sun appears, shining in its strength. Signs and wonders follow in quick succession. The wicked look with terror and amazement upon the scene, while the righteous behold with solemn joy the tokens of their deliverance. Everything in nature seems turned out of its course. The
streams cease to flow. Dark, heavy clouds come up, and clash against each other. In the midst of the angry heavens is one clear space of indescribable glory, whence comes the voice of God like the sound of many waters, saying, "It is done." Rev. 16:17. . . .

That voice shakes the heavens and the earth. There is a mighty earthquake, "such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an, earthquake, and so great." Rev. 16:18. . . . The whole earth heaves and swells like the waves of the sea. Its surface is breaking up. Its very foundations seem to be giving way. . . .

Graves are opened, and "many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth . . . awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." Dan. 12:2. All who have died in the faith of the third angel's message come forth from the tomb glorified, to hear God's covenant of peace with those who have kept His law.

Those who had died in faith under the third angel's message, keeping the Sabbath, came forth from their dusty beds.

"They also which pierced him" (Rev. 1:7), those that mocked and derided Christ's dying agonies, and the most violent opposers of His truth and His people, are raised to behold Him in His glory, and to see the honor placed upon the loyal and obedient. . . .

The voice of God is heard from heaven, declaring the day and hour of Jesus' coming, and delivering the everlasting covenant to His people. ... And when the blessing is pronounced on those who have honored God by keeping
His Sabbath holy, there is a mighty shout of victory.

The voice of God is heard from heaven, declaring the day and hour of Jesus' coming, and delivering everlasting covenant to His people. Like peals of loudest thunder His words roll through the earth." The Faith I Live By p. 182.

Daniel was told he would stand at the end of the 1335 days. This is referring to the "special resurrection" of Daniel 12:2 rather than the General resurrection!

Notice the woman in the quote below will be in that special resurrection and will be numbered with the 144,000.

"Dear Brother:
I hardly know what to say to you. The news of your wife's death was to me overwhelming. I could hardly  believe it and can hardly believe it now. God gave me a view last Sabbath night which I will write....

I saw that she was sealed and would come up at the voice of God and stand upon the earth, and would be with the 144,000. I saw we need not mourn for her; she would rest in the time of trouble, and all that we could mourn
for was our loss in being deprived of her company. I saw her death would result in good."  Selected Messages  vol 2 p. 263

From my study of the day and the hour, it is not announced until probation is closed.

The wicked are surprised at the second coming, the righteous are not surprised!

1 Thessalonians  5:4   But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Daniel 12:10 "none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand."

"The voice of God is heard from Heaven, declaring the day and hour of Jesus' coming, and delivering the everlasting covenant to his people. Like peals of loudest thunder, his words roll through the earth. The Israel of God stand listening, with their eyes fixed upward. Their countenances are lighted up with his glory, and shine as did the face of Moses when he came down from Sinai. The wicked cannot look upon them. And when the blessing is pronounced on those who have honored God by keeping his Sabbath holy, there is a mighty shout of victory."  Great Controversy p. 640.

This event does NOT happen until probation closes. In my audio message I stated we can NOT know the day and hour probation closes. With this in mind we can NOT know the time in which the voice of God will be heard declaring the day and hour as stated above.

In short I believe the 1335 points us to the special resurrection and not the general resurrection at the second coming. The 1335 days do NOT give us the day or the hour of the second coming. Doug Batchelor, my self and others are still in the studying faze of this prophecy. I do not feel anyone is an authoritative personality on the topic yet. So keep studying and feel free to share your findings with me. I am interested.

BLESSINGS IN THE LORD!!!!!!!

Happy Sabbath and Happy New Year!!!
