On the Power and Efficacy of the Spirit of Prophecy

1.  As Seventh Day Adventist’s we believe in righteousness by faith. That the grace of God the Father is the POWER of God the Holy Spirit shed abroad unto all that confess their sins and repent having faith in the victory of the Son of God over sinful flesh; and that all who claim the promise for this grace (POWER) and have faith in the living Word (Jesus Christ) may be set free from the bondage of ALL “sin (which) is the transgression of the law.” 1 John 3:4.

 

2. Seventh Day Adventist’s world-wide claim to be “the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” and that “the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Revelation 12:17; 19:10. Seventh Day Adventist’s world-wide believe the Spirit of Prophecy to be given to our people through the writings of Mrs. Ellen G. White. Therefore these writings are not merely the “testimony of Ellen G. White,” they are the “testimony of Jesus Christ.”  Are Seventh Day Adventist keeping the commandments of God and obeying the standards outlined for us in the Spirit of Prophecy? Or are we rejecting the light given us by the ‘testimony of Jesus?”

 

3. Do Seventh Day Adventist’s in general now obey the commandments of God and the standards outlined for us in the “testimony of Jesus” “which is the spirit of prophecy” and thus fulfill the requirements to be the “remnant” of Bible prophecy? Or is the Seventh Day Adventist church the church of Laodicea, backslidden from the holy standards of the Holy Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy? If we find our selves in the church of Laodicea shouldn’t we then be “zealous and repent” thus reforming to the standards found in the Life of Jesus Christ which are outlined in the Ten Commandments and the wrings of the “Testimonies” known as the Spirit of Prophecy?

 

4. “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:20. The standards of the Ten Commandment Law and the Testimony of Jesus Christ given though His prophets are “holy just and good.” Romans 7:12. They “are not grienvous” 1 John 5:3 The standards of the Godhead are ways far above the ways and customs of this world “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8,9. Therefore the standards of the “remnant” must be far above the standards of this world. “(Christ) gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:14.

 

5. “Many who have known the truth, but who have not nourished its principles in their hearts, will become leavened with evil. This evil they do not discern. In word and act they say, "Speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits." We are now to call things by their right name. No longer are we to look upon unrighteousness as righteousness. Let every one be prepared to lift up the standard of truth. We are to have no fellowship with the worldly practises that have perverted the faith of some who have enjoyed great privileges and who should now be standing on vantage ground.” Review and Herald November 5 1903.

6. “WE MUST ELEVATE THE STANDARD FAR HIGHER THAN IT IS AT THE PRESENT TIME" Manuscript Releases Volume 1, 1871, pp. 19.”  “In vision I saw two armies in terrible conflict. One army was led by banners bearing the world's insignia; the other was led by the bloodstained banner of Prince Immanuel. Standard after standard was left to trail in the dust as company after company from the Lord's army joined the foe and tribe after tribe from the ranks of the enemy united with the commandment-keeping people of God. An angel flying in the midst of heaven put the standard of Immanuel into many hands, while a mighty general cried out with a loud voice: "Come into line. Let those who are loyal to the commandments of God and the testimony of Christ now take their position. Come out from among them, and be ye separate, and touch not the unclean, and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters. Let all who will come up to the help of the Lord, to the help of the Lord against the mighty."  Testimonies for the Church volume 8 p.41. This is not a call to come out of “Her” which would refer to Babylon. It is a call to come out from among “them” referring to the companies that have left off the  standards of the “strait testimony” of the Spirit of Prophecy which are the standards of Prince Immanuel. The Seventh Day Adventist Church is now sifting into two groups those that are loyal to the Commandments of God and the Testimonies and those that leave standard after standard to trail in the dust. The Seventh Day Adventist Church is not Babylon nor will it ever be (read Testimonies  to Ministers pp. 32-62 CAREFULLY) The above and other statements make it clear that those loyal to Prince Immanuel will be called to leave companies that forsake the standards of God. We are never called to leave the Seventh Day Adventist prophetic movement. The ship of “Present Truth” must meet the iceberg of error head on. This work must first be done in our own ranks to purify a people to receive the Latter rain and give The Loud Cry of earth’s final warning which will fill the earth with the glory of God.

 

7. “Nov. 20th, I was shown the people of God, and saw them mightily shaken. . .I asked the meaning of the shaking I had seen. I was shown that it would be caused by the straight testimony called forth by the counsel of the True Witness to the Laodiceans. It will have its effect upon the heart of the receiver of the testimony, and it will lead him to exalt the standard and pour forth the straight truth. This straight testimony, some will not bear. They will rise up against it, and this will cause a shaking among God's people. I saw that the testimony of the True Witness has not been half heeded. The solemn testimony upon which the destiny of the Church hangs, has been lightly esteemed, if not entirely disregarded. This testimony must work deep repentance, and all that truly receive it, will obey it, and be purified..” Review and Herald December 31, 1857. “"Soon the battle will be waged fiercely between those who serve God and those who serve Him not. Soon everything that can be shaken will be shaken, that those things that cannot be shaken may remain" Testimonies for the Church Vol. 9 p. 15,16.

 

8. "God means that testing truth shall be brought to the front and become the subject of examination and discussion, even if it is through the contempt placed upon it. The minds of the people must be agitated. Every controversy, every reproach, every slander, will be God's means of provoking inquiry and awakening minds that other wise would slumber” Testimonies for the Church Vol. 1 p. 453. "Most startling messages will be borne by men of God's appointment, messages of a character to warn the people, to arouse them. And while some will be provoked by the warning, and led to resist the light and evidence, we are to see from this that we are giving the testing message for this time." Evangelism p. 168.

 

9.  Today there is need of the voice of stern rebuke; for grievous sins have separated the people from God. Infidelity is fast becoming fashionable" Prophets and Kings p. 140. “If God abhors one sin above another, of which his people are guilty, it is of doing nothing in a case of emergency. Indifference of neutrality in a religious crisis is regarded of God as a grievous crime; and equal to the very worst hostility against God." Review and Herald September 30, 1873.

 

10. "The time is fast approaching when those who choose to obey God rather than man will be made to feel the hand of oppression. SHALL WE THEN DISHONOR GOD BY KEEPING SILENT while His holy commandments are trodden underfoot? While the Protestant world is by her attitude making concessions to Rome, let us arouse to comprehend the situation and view the contest before us in its true bearings. Let the Watchman now lift up their voice and give the message, which is present truth for this time. Let us show the people where we are in prophetic history and seek to arouse the SPIRIT OF TRUE PROTESTANTISM, awakening the world . . . God calls upon us to awake for the end is near" Testimonies for the Church Volume 5 p. 716. Is this how the virgins awaken out of their sleep?

 

11. “The people in Noah's day possessed sharp intellects, and they sought to show, on scientific grounds, that it was impossible for his prophecy to be fulfilled. Noah was laughed to scorn because of his warnings; he was regarded as a fanatic. Noah's implicit trust in God annoyed while it condemned them; but they could not move this faithful reprover from his position. The Lord had given the warning, and that was enough for Noah. The arguments of the philosophers were nothing to him, when the message of God was sounding in his ears, "The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Noah, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house. He had that fear which should characterize the life of every Christian." Signs of the Times February 27, 1879.

 

12. Soon all mankind from every nation under heaven that  receive the Mark of the Beast are to be visited by the seven last plagues and destroyed by the brightness of the coming of the Son of God in the clouds of glory. Only those who receive the Seal of God which overcome ALL their sinful character defects by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony will stand without blemish and be preserved during the time of Jacobs trouble and through the seven last plagues which are the wrath of God poured out with our the mixture upon the wicked.  Like Noah should we must do all in our strength INDIVIDUALLY to tell the World what the Mark of the Beast is? and what the Seal of God is? and give the final warning message about the Judgment of God that is now going on in the Sanctuary in Heaven which is soon to end bringing the wrath of God and the soon coming of Jesus Christ? Or should we continue to merely warm the seats in the churches and refuse to go door to door warning our neighbors, and just wait for our neighbors to watch 3ABN or come to a Revelation Seminar? Is that loving our neighbor as our selves? Is the blood of the cities that are soon to be destroyed by the judgments of God and the fury of Satan on the hands of the sleeping virgins still or have we done all in our power to warn them?

 

13. “Throw all the sunlight you possibly can, into the pathway of others. It will be dark enough for them, even if you do this; for Satan presses his darkness upon every soul. Let the beams of the Sun of Righteousness shine upon your fellow-pilgrims, that they may rejoice in the Lord. This you can do in your home missionary work, in your neighborhood missionary work, and in your church missionary work. Let your light shine forth in such clear, steady rays, that no man may stand up in the judgment, and say, "Why did not you tell me about this truth? Why did you not care for my soul? Why did you love the world and its amusements so much, that you impressed me with the thought that they could not be wrong? Why did you not walk in the path cast up for the ransomed of the Lord to walk in, and make straight paths for your feet? You knew that we were in darkness, and your crooked steps have led us on into utter ruin."  Review and Herald, August 28, 1888.

 

14.“The great cities must be warned; and if you have not surplus means, then it is certainly the duty of some of our brethren to sell and invest means in the different branches of the work. "Lay up for yourselves a treasure in the heavens." Duty is plain; the selling time has come if means is demanded to advance the cause and work of God and cannot be raised without selling your land and your extra houses. Awaken, brethren, to the call of duty . . .  I appeal to every one in the ranks of Sabbath-keepers to deny self for Christ's sake. There is earnest work to be done for the Master; and those who have no houses and lands to turn into money, can deny self in various ways, and save means which would have been needlessly expended. Practice temperance in all things. Cut down selfish indulgences at your tables, and dress plainly, with the great and grand object before you of having money to place in the treasury of God. You may thus be the means of advancing his cause, enlightening those who are in the darkness of error.” Review and Herald February 10, 1885.

 

15. “And all that believed were together, and had all things common;  And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all [men], as every man had need.   And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,  Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” Acts 2:44:47.

16. Pastors need to teach laymen to give Bible studies and answer objections carefully and then press together press together and enter the neighborhoods in our towns our villages and even our greater cities. Should we not dispense with all unnecessary possessions and further the Kingdom of God? I  think it a greater duty to buy literature containing the final warning such as THE GREAT CONTROVERSY and the Amazing Facts study guides and begin distributing them door to door in OUR OWN neighborhoods if necessary freely before giving such money to different organizations. Then all members of our churches themselves would be missionaries, and getting them selves in the work rather than merely supporting others in the cause. Should we not warn our own neighborhoods before warning people in other lands? Those have great possessions can afford to donate also to the various  workers and organizations doing the greatest good for the Three Angels Messages.

 

17. “Terrible shocks will come upon the earth, and the lordly palaces erected at great expense will certainly become heaps of ruins.”--3MR 312 (1891). “When God's restraining hand is removed, the destroyer begins his work. Then in our cities the greatest calamities will come.--3MR 314 (1897).  “The end is near and every city is to be turned upside down every way. There will be confusion in every city. Everything that can be shaken is to be shaken and we do not know what will come next. The judgments will be according to the wickedness of the people and the light of truth that they have had.--1MR 248 (1902).  “O that God's people had a sense of the impending destruction of thousands of cities, now almost given to idolatry.”--Ev 29 (1903). “The time is near when large cities will be swept away, and all should be warned of these coming judgments.”--Ev 29 (1910). “In the visions of the night a very impressive scene passed before me. I saw an immense ball of fire fall among some beautiful mansions, causing their instant destruction. I heard some one say, "We knew that the judgments of God were coming upon the earth, but we did not know that they would come so soon." Others, with agonized voices, said, "You knew! Why then did you not tell us? We did not know!" On every side I heard similar words of reproach spoken.” Evangelism p. 43.

 

 

18.“Now we see need of workers in the opening fields before us, but where are the men who can be trusted, men who have been year by year growing into a better knowledge of God and his ways, and the movings of his providence? I want to sound in the ears of these sleepy, half paralyzed souls the words spoken to Nicodemus, "Except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." There is need to ask God with all the heart, to elevate the standard. The commonness, the cheapness of conversation reveal the measure of spirituality of the members of the church. Now, those who have lived years in this same experience know not God nor Jesus Christ whom he hath sent; and should such go forth as representatives of Jesus Christ? These men will never give the right mold to other minds. They have not grown up to the full stature of men and women in Jesus Christ. They simply live the name of Christian, but are not fitted for the work of God, and never will be until they are born again, and learn their A.B.C.'s in the religion of Jesus Christ. There is hope in one direction. Take the young men and women and place them where they will come as little as possible in contact with our churches, that the low grade of piety which is current in this day shall not leaven their ideas of what it means to be a Christian."  Last Day Events (Manuscript) p.88. 19. In the same paragraph found in another book the messenger of the Lord continues, “...We see the need of a deep and thorough work in our churches; but the Lord alone can by his Holy Spirit make the hearts that are as steel, soft and sympathetic, and true to the service of Christ. We are far behind because the churches have folded their hands in a peace and safety attitude, and are at ease in Zion, doing almost nothing when the living zeal should be in their hearts as never before. Satan is stirring the powers from beneath to make one last desperate effort to convert the world to his own principles. He has his plans laid with Satanic subtlety, and destruction cometh suddenly while these that have the light, the warnings that such a crisis is before us are almost unmoved. . .” The Paulson Collection of Ellen G. White Letters, p. 344. “

 

20."Love is dwelt upon as the chief attribute of God, but it is degraded to a weak sentimentalism, making little distinction between good and evil. God's justice, His denunciation of sin, the requirements of His Holy Law, are all kept out of sight" The Great Controversy (1888) p. 558. ”Sin is not dealt with as a thing of fearful consequence, destined to bring inevitable ruin upon those who persist in its indulgence. It is not pictured in its abhorrent character before the people of the world. Smooth things are prophesied by false teachers, and the multitudes are resting in their sin, unmindful of the solemn warnings and examples of the Word of God. The time has come when we should "sigh and . . . cry for all the abominations" that are done in the land.” Review and Herald September 15, 1910.

 

 21. “Never was there greater need of faithful warnings and reproofs, and close, straight dealing, than at this very time. Satan has come down with great power, knowing that his time is short. He is flooding the world with pleasing fables, and the people of God love to have smooth things spoken to them. Sin and iniquity are not abhorred. I was shown that God's people must make more firm, determined efforts to press back the incoming darkness. The close work of the Spirit of God is needed now as never before. Stupidity must be shaken off. We must arouse from the lethargy that will prove our destruction unless we resist it. Satan has a powerful, controlling influence upon minds. Preachers and people are in danger of being found upon the side of the powers of darkness. There is no such thing now as a neutral position.” Testimonies for the Church Volume 3 p.327,328.

 

22. “There is a spirit of worldliness coming into the church, and it must be firmly met and rebuked. Unless we humble our hearts before God, unless we seek him earnestly, we shall be overcome by the temptations of Satan; and those whom we neglect to warn, to reprove, to exhort, with all long-suffering and doctrine, will he ensnared by his devices, and we shall not be guiltless.” Gospel Workers p. 450. “Absorbed in worldliness and pleasure-seeking, the professed people of God were blinded to the Saviour's instructions concerning the signs of his appearing. The doctrine of the second advent had been neglected; the scriptures relating to it were obscured by misinterpretation, until it was, to a great extent, ignored and forgotten. Especially was this the case in the churches of America. The freedom and comfort enjoyed by all classes of society, the ambitious desire for wealth and luxury, begetting an absorbing devotion to money-making, the eager rush for popularity and power, which seemed to be within the reach of all, led men to center their interests and hopes on the things of this life, and to put far in the future that solemn day when the present order of things should pass away.” The Great Controversy (1888) 308,309. 

 

23. “Says Howard Crosby: "The church of God is today courting the world. Its members are trying to bring it down to the level of the ungodly. The ball, the theater, nude and lewd art, social luxuries with all their loose moralities, are making inroads into the sacred enclosure of the church; and as a satisfaction for all this worldliness. . . It is the old trick of Satan. The Jewish church struck on that rock; the Romish church was wrecked on the same; and the Protestant is fast reaching the same doom." Ibid p.386,387. “"Almost imperceptibly the customs of heathenism found their way into the Christian church." The Great Controversy p. 49. “Conformity to worldly customs converts the church to the world; it never converts the world to Christ.” Ibid p. 509.

 

24. The National Anthem of the Seventh Day Adventist church is “Lift up the trumpet and loud let it ring, Jesus is coming again! Cheer up ye pilgrims, be joyful and sing; Jesus is coming again! Coming again, coming again, Jesus is coming again!” What is this trumpet? Is it not that spoken of by the prophet Isaiah? “Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.” Isaiah 58:1. “Today there is need of the voice of stern rebuke; for grievous sins have separated the people from God. . . . The smooth sermons so often preached make no lasting impression; the trumpet does not give a certain sound. Men are not cut to the heart by the plain, sharp truths of God's word. . . .” Conflict and Courage (1970) p.208.

 

 25. “The childhood, youth, and manhood of John, who came in the spirit and power of Elijah to do a special work in preparing the way for the world's Redeemer, were marked with firmness and moral power. Satan could not move his integrity. When the voice of this prophet was heard in the wilderness, "Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight," Satan was afraid for his kingdom. He felt that the voice, sounding forth in trumpet tones in the wilderness, caused sinners under his control to tremble. He saw that his power over many was broken. The sinfulness of sin was revealed in such a manner that men became alarmed; and some, by repentance of their sins, found the favor of God and gained moral power to resist his temptations.” Confrontation (1971) p.28,29.

 

26. “If ministers who preach the gospel would do their duty, and would also be ensamples to the flock of God, their voices would be lifted up like a trumpet to show the people their transgressions and the house of Israel their sins. Ministers who exhort sinners to be converted should distinctly define what sin is and what conversion from sin is. Sin is the transgression of the law. The convicted sinner must exercise repentance toward God for the transgression of His law, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ibid "Here we see the weakness of Aaron. Had he stood with true moral courage, and in boldness rebuked the leaders in this shameful request, his timely words would have saved that terrible apostasy. But his desire to be popular with his congregation, and his fear of incurring their displeasure led him to cowardly sacrifice the allegiance of the Hebrews in that decisive moment." "The congregation of Israel thought Aaron a much more pleasant leader than Moses." Testimonies for the Church volume 3, p. 340,341.

 

27.  “Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come.” Revelation 14:7. “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” 1 Peter 4:17. What is the message to the church at this time? “The true state of the church is to be presented before men, and they are to receive the word of God not as something originating with men, but as the word of God. Many have treated the message to the Laodiceans as it has come to them, as the word of man.” Manuscript Releases Volume 15 p. 91. The message to the church of Laodicea is a message that applies to many Christianity bodies, especially is it given to the Seventh Day Adventist Church

 

28. “And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and True Witness, the beginning of the creation of God;   I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.  So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.   Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:   I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.   As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.   Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.  To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.   He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” Revelation 3:14-22.

 

29. Since Jesus is knocking on the outside of the door of the church, he is NOT inside the church. Should we not be following the council in Joel the second chapter and thus bring thorough reformation among our ranks? “Many are included in the Savior's message to the church at Laodicea. No man should keep his foot on the brake to hinder the advancement of the Lord's work. The time has come for the people of God to take their light from under the bushel, and place it where it will shine forth in clear, distinct rays. Let the Lord's workers go forward, and let those who would hinder, stand out of the way.” Manuscript Releases Volume 18 p. 337.

 

30. “And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.” Ezekiel 9:4 “We feel depressed, greatly depressed, as we see the world and its wickedness. The professed Christian world is enveloped in the darkness that covers the earth. We sigh and cry for the abominations that are done in the land. Why is it that all this wickedness does not break forth in decided violence against righteousness and truth? It is because the four angels are holding the four winds, that they shall not blow upon the earth. But human passions are reaching a high pass, and the Spirit of the Lord is being withdrawn from the earth. Were it not that God has commanded angelic agencies to control the satanic agencies that are seeking to break loose and to destroy, there would be no hope. But the winds are to be held until the servants of God are sealed in their foreheads.” In Heavenly Places (1967) p. 96.

 

31.  “The day of God's vengeance is just upon us. The seal of God will be placed upon the foreheads of those only who sigh and cry for the abominations done in the land. Those who link in sympathy with the world are eating and drinking with the drunken and will surely be destroyed with the workers of iniquity. "The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil."Our own course of action will determine whether we shall receive the seal of the living God or be cut down by the destroying weapons. Already a few drops of God's wrath have fallen upon the earth; but when the seven last plagues shall be poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation, then it will be forever too late to repent and find shelter. No atoning blood will then wash away the stains of sin. "And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, everyone that shall be found written in the book." When this time of trouble comes, every case is decided; there is no longer probation, no longer mercy for the impenitent.” Testimony for the Church Volume 5 p. 212,213.

 

32. “And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.” Mark 9:35. Pastors and Conference officials are not the masters of all! Oh no! they are the servants of all. “Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.” Matthew 23:10. “God calls upon those who have exercised undue authority to take off from His workers every dominating hand. Let everyone to whom has been entrusted sacred responsibilities seek to understand his individual duty before God, and do that duty humbly and faithfully. Let no one regard himself as a master, with controlling power to exercise over his brethren. The principles of the word of God are to be taught and practiced.” Testimonies to Ministers p. 492.  The Holy Spirit who is the giver of all spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12), does not point to His own authority rather to the authority of the Word of God Jesus Christ. “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: John 15:26. Ministers and elders are the rulers of the people in the sense that they are to point men to the authority of Jesus Christ found in the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy. Chistians are to submit to church discipline and church authority as it is fit in the Lord. When the authority of church officials differs from the Holy Bible  and the Spirit of Prophecy, “We ought to obey God rather than men.” Acts 5:29.

33. "The head of every man is Christ." God, who put all things under the Saviour's feet, "gave Him to be the head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him that filleth all in all." 1 Cor. 11:3; Eph. 1:22, 23. The church is built upon Christ as its foundation; it is to obey Christ as its head. It is not to depend upon man, or be controlled by man. Many claim that a position of trust in the church gives them authority to dictate what other men shall believe and what they shall do. This claim God does not sanction. The Saviour declares, "All ye are brethren." All are exposed to temptation, and are liable to error. Upon no finite being can we depend for guidance. The Rock of faith is the living presence of Christ in the church. Upon this the weakest may depend, and those who think themselves the strongest will prove to be the weakest, unless they make Christ their efficiency. "Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm." The Lord "is the Rock, His work is perfect." "Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him." Jer. 17:5; Deut. 32:4; Ps. 2:12. ” Desire of Ages p. 414.

 

34.”The spirit of domination is extending to the presidents of our conferences. If a man is sanguine of his own powers and seeks to exercise dominion over his brethren, feeling that he is invested with authority to make his will the ruling power, the best and only safe course is to remove him, lest great harm be done and he lose his own soul and imperil the souls of others. "All ye are brethren." This disposition to lord it over God's heritage will cause a reaction unless these men change their course. Those in authority should manifest the spirit of Christ. They should deal as He would deal with every case that requires attention. They should go weighted with the Holy Spirit. A man's position does not make him one jot or tittle greater in the sight of God; it is character alone that God values.” Testimonies to Ministers p. 362.

 

35. “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.” What does the Holy Spirit hear? The Word of God proceeding from the Son of God; He thus testifies of Christ and therefore does not teach men based on His own authority. He points us to the Word of God. The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth. “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17. The Holy Spirit has always operated this way. He hears the word of God who is Christ and then He inspired  Holy men of old to write “The Word Of God” He now points us back to the Word of God, and in these last days, the Holy Spirit heard the Testimony of Jesus and revealed it to Ellen G. White who in turn wrote it down and sent it unto the churches.

 

36.. Those given the gift of pastor by the Holy Spirit will heed the council of Paul; “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;   And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” 2 Timothy 4:2-4. There are ministers and elders amongst us who would point to their own authority rather than the authority of the Word of God and the Spirit of Prophecy. Are we not warned about this by the Apostle Paul? “For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.” Acts 20:29,30. Now that Ellen G. White has departed to sleep in Jesus has there once again crept in amongst us grievous wolves who in pride and arrogance appear as meek and gentle lambs yet pointing to their own authority?

 

37. During the shaking and sifting time men will need to determine whether they will follow the authority of men or the authority of IT IS WRITTEN. “The ministers present fables, prophesy smooth things, to soothe their fears, and quiet the awakened conscience. But since many refuse to be satisfied with the mere authority of men, and demand a plain "Thus saith the Lord," the popular ministry, like the Pharisees of old, filled with anger as their authority is questioned, will denounce the message as of Satan, and stir up the sin-loving multitudes to revile and persecute those who proclaim it.” The Great Controversy p. 606,607.

 

38. “I cannot submit my faith either to the pope or to councils . . . Unless therefore I am convinced by the testimony of Scripture or by the clearest reasoning, unless I am persuaded by means of the passages I have quoted, and unless they thus render my conscience bound by the word of God, I cannot and will not retract, for it is unsafe for a Christian to speak against his conscience. Here I stand, I can do no other; may God help me. Amen." Martin Luther- The Great Controversy p. 160.  I  make this same stand, I can not submit my faith to pastors and board meetings or even to the General Conference for they frequently contradict each other. Unless I am persuaded by  the Word of God and the Spirit of Prophecy and the plainest reasoning. Unless I am persuaded by the passages I have quoted I cannot cease to sigh and cry about the backslidden condition of the church, and like Martin Luther will continue to cry for reformation, because my conscience is bound to do so and it is unwise for a man to go against his conscience. Here I stand I can do no other. May God help me, Amen.

 

39. "I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes" Psalm 101:3 “Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken Thou me in Thy way" Psalm 119:37. We have Ten Commandments we must follow in choosing our books music and television programs. I find these commandments in Phillippians 4:8 and 1 Peter 2:5. Everything we do or entertain our selves with must be all ten of these. If you know that these ten rules of Entertainment are good and refuse to obey them it is sin. “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. Our entertainment must be. . .

Is what we amuse our selves with both Holy and acceptable to God?  If not, repent! ! !

 

40."Among the most dangerous resorts for pleasure is the theater. Instead of being a school of morality and virtue, as it is so often claimed, it is the very hotbed of immorality. Vicious habits and sinful propensities are strengthened and confirmed by these entertainments. Low songs, lewd gestures, expressions, and attitudes deprave the imagination and debase the morals. Every youth who habitually attends such exhibitions will be corrupted in principal. There is no influence in our land more powerful to poison the imagination, to destroy religious impressions and to blunt the relish for the tranquil pleasures and sober realities of life than the theatrical amusements (This includes Television!). The love for these scenes increases with every indulgence as the desire for intoxicating drink strengthens with its use. The only safe course is to shun the theater, the circus and every other questionable place of amusement. -E. G. White Councils to Teachers Parents and Students pp. 340,341.

 

41. The Bible calls sin, "the works of the flesh" because the flesh loves sin. "This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh, and these are contrary the on to the other" Galatians 5:16,17. The flesh of the born again Christian still loves sin! "Watch and Pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak" Jesus Christ Matthew 26:41. The Lord's Prayer includes the word's "lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil" Matthew 6:13. When it comes to television, we must "Watch and pray that we enter not into temptation" because the Holy Spirit hates the works of the flesh, and the flesh lusteth against the Spirit and still loves sin. We cannot go by our feelings, or by our "personal preference,” rather by the Word of God. Because, "The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked,” and "There is a way that seemeth right unto man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death" Jeremiah 17:9; Proverbs 14:12.

 

42. Compromise starts small and grows until it is out of control, because, "Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin." John 8:34. A slave does not have the option of choosing to serve just a "little sin." I have only two safe options to give to you in regards to television either turn the channel to 3ABN and super glue the channel so you cannot change it. Or like Christ said, "if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee, for it is more profitable for thee that one of your members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell" Matthew 5:29. If you cannot keep from offending God with the television then cast it from thee Christ said that the whole world would go through the broad way to destruction, and only a few would find the narrow gate that leads to eternal life (Matthew 7:13,14). There is very little on television that will lead to eternal life, “and few there be that find it” and there is much that is leading the multitudes of the world down the “broad way of destruction, and many there be that go in there at.”

 

43. WWJD? What would Jesus do? Would he watch tonight's NBC line up and watch the David Letterman Show before going to sleep? ; then say "well I am getting tired I'll grab some gram crackers and go to bed"; or would He go to Block Buster Video and get all the new releases? Oh no! "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, to day and forever" Hebrews 13:8. "After His work was finished for the day, He went forth, evening after evening, away from the confusion of the city, and His form was bowed in some retired grove in supplication to His Father. At times the bright beams of the moon shone upon His bowed form. And then again the clouds and darkness shut away all light. The dew and frost of night rested upon His head and beard, while in the attitude of a suppliant. He frequently continued His petitions through the entire night. He is our example. If we could remember this, and imitate Him, we would be much stronger in God."- E.G. White Testimonies for the Church Vol. 2 p. 202.

 

44. What would be the spiritual thermometer of the Seventh Day Adventist Church if when fathers get home from there days work they sat down and grabbed the Bible instead of grabbing the remote control? What if they read stories from the Bible to their children and taught them to seek the presence of the God and forsake the pleasures of this world? What if the priests of the families the men would spend devout hours in prayer as Jesus did praying for his church, his community and his family? Would we remain Laodicea? I think not. Our men need to be Holy men of God sanctified and set apart from the things of this world to be the spiritual leaders of their homes setting examples to their wives and children. Teaching missionary door to door work to their families seeking out their neighbors who would desire to enroll in Amazing Facts study lessons www.amazingfacts.org . Instead of wasting time on the foolishness of this present age that profits nothing.

45. “In Christian homes a bulwark should be built against temptation. Satan is using every means to make crime and degrading vice popular. We cannot walk the streets of our cities without encountering flaring notices of crime presented in some novel or to be acted at some theater. The mind is educated to familiarity with sin. The course pursued by the base and vile is kept before the people in the periodicals of the day, and everything that can arouse passion is brought before them in exciting stories. Some fathers and mothers are so indifferent, so careless, that they think it makes no difference whether their children attend a church school or a public school. "We are in the world," they say, "and we cannot get out of it." But, parents, we can get a good way out of the world, if we choose to do so. We can avoid seeing many of the evils that are multiplying so fast in these last days. We can avoid hearing about much of the wickedness and crime that exist.” The Adventist Home p. 406.

 

46. The true Christian will not desire to enter any place of amusement or engage in any diversion upon which he cannot ask the blessing of God. He will not be found at the theater, the billiard hall, or the bowling saloon. He will not unite with the gay waltzers or indulge in any other bewitching pleasure that will banish Christ from the mind.  To those who plead for these diversions we answer, We cannot indulge in them in the name of Jesus of Nazareth. The blessing of God would not be invoked upon the hour spent at the theater or in the dance. No Christian would wish to meet death in such a place. No one would wish to be found there when Christ shall come.” Ibid p. 515, 516.

 

47. The story of the prodigal son was to illustrate a born again Christian backsliding into the world; then finding His Father still welcoming Him with loving arms. This son found himself eating the slop he was feeding pigs. When he came to his Father's house to ask for forgiveness and a job they killed the fattest calf and through a party. HOW MANY CHRISTIANS IN THE CHURCH ARE THE PRODIGAL SON AND DO NOT EVEN KNOW IT? Are we spending are Father's money (time) watching sex, violence and riotous sinful living? ; feeding your mind with the "works of the flesh"- spiritually equivalent to what the prodical ate. While God wants you to go home and have a feast in His Word.

                                                                                                                                                                                               

48. “The pursuit of pleasure and amusement centers in the cities. Many parents who choose a city home for their children, thinking to give them greater advantages, meet with disappointment, and too late repent their terrible mistake. The cities of today are fast becoming like Sodom and Gomorrah. The many holidays encourage idleness. The exciting sports--theatergoing, horse racing, gambling, liquor-drinking, and reveling--stimulate every passion to intense activity. The youth are swept away by the popular current. Those who learn to love amusement for its own sake open the door to a flood of temptations. They give themselves up to social gaiety and thoughtless mirth, and their intercourse with pleasure lovers has an intoxicating effect upon the mind. They are led on from one form of dissipation to another, until they lose both the desire and the capacity for a life of usefulness. Their religious aspirations are chilled; their spiritual life is darkened. All the nobler faculties of the soul, all that link man with the spiritual world, are debased.” 

 

49. Pleasure lovers are still crowding to theaters, horse races, gambling hells. The highest excitement prevails, yet probation's hour is fast closing, and every case is about to be eternally decided. Satan sees that his time is short. He has set all his agencies at work that men may be deceived, deluded, occupied, and entranced until the day of probation shall be ended, and the door of mercy forever shut.--Southern Watchman, Oct. 3, 1905.

 

50. “On Sunday many of the popular churches appear more like a theater than like a place for the worship of God. Every style of fashionable dress is displayed there. Many of the poor have not courage to enter such houses of worship. Their plain dress, though it may be neat, is in marked contrast with that of their more wealthy sisters, and this difference causes them to feel embarrassed. Some try to appear like the wealthy by trimming goods of an inferior quality in imitation of more costly apparel. Poor girls, receiving but small wages, often spend their last cent in order to dress like those who are not obliged to earn their own living. In consequence, they have nothing laid by for sickness, nothing to put into the treasury of God, no time to improve the mind or to study God's word, no time for secret prayer or the prayer-meeting.” Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene p. 85,86.

 

51. I remember going to church over the years and being a poor man as I am not feeling worthy to attend unless I had an expensive suit. We are certainly not to take up the fashions of the world, neither are we to dress in a common way on Sabbath morning. But our dress should be plain, neat, and modest. Such as would be a welcoming environment to the poorer classes of society. “For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:   Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?  Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith.” James 5:2-5.

 

52.  It is written that it is a sin for a man to look on a woman to lust after her. Is it not therefore a sin for a woman to dress in a way that is designed to entice the lust of a man’s eyes? “Simple, plain, unpretending dress will be a recommendation to my youthful sisters. In no better way can you let your light shine to others than in your simplicity of dress and deportment. You may show to all that, in comparison with eternal things, you place a proper estimate upon the things of this life. My sisters, avoid even the appearance of evil. In this fast age, reeking with corruption, you are not safe unless you stand guarded. Virtue and modesty are rare. I appeal to you as followers of Christ, making an exalted profession, to cherish the precious, priceless gem of modesty. This will guard virtue. Chaste simplicity in dress, when united with modesty of demeanor, will go far toward surrounding a young woman with that atmosphere of sacred reserve which will be to her a shield from a thousand perils. There is a dress which every child and youth may innocently seek to obtain. It is the righteousness of the saints. If they will only be as willing and persevering in obtaining this as they are in fashioning their garments after the standard of worldly society, they will very soon be clothed with the righteousness of Christ, and their names will not be blotted out of the book of life.” Child Guidance p. 417, 418.

 

53. “Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” 1 John 2:115,16.  Is not the fashions of the world an idol? One which is altogether vanity? Why do parents clothe themselves and their children following after the fashions of the world as to win the friendship of the world? “Satan stands in the background, devising the fashions which lead to extravagance in the outlay of means. In forming the fashions of the day, he has a fixed purpose. He knows that time and money which are devoted to meet the demands of fashion will not be used for higher, holier objects. Precious time is wasted in keeping pace with ever-changing and never-satisfying fashions. No sooner is one style introduced than new styles are devised, and then, in order for fashionable persons to remain fashionable, the dress must be remodeled. Thus professing Christians, with divided hearts, waste their time, giving to the world nearly all their energies.” Review and Herald March 20, 1858.

 

54.  “Nobility of soul, gentleness, generosity, are bartered away to gratify the lust after evil things. Thousands sell their virtue that they may have means for following the fashions of the world. Such madness concerning the changing fashions of the world should call forth an army of reformers who would take their position for simple and plain attire. Satan is ever inventing fashions that cannot be followed except through the sacrifice of money, time, and health. Having before us the picture of the world's demoralization upon the point of fashion, how dare professed Christians follow in the path of the worldling? Shall we appear to sanction these demoralizing fashions by adopting them? Many do adopt the fashions of the world, but it is because Christ is not formed within them, the hope of glory. Luxurious living, extravagant dressing, is carried to such an extent as to constitute one of the signs of the last days.  Pride and vanity are manifested everywhere; but those who are inclined to look into the mirror to admire themselves, have little inclination to look into the law of God, the great moral mirror. This idolatry of dress destroys all that is humble, meek, and lovely in the character.” Messages to Young People p.359,360.

 

55. “As I saw the dreadful fact that God's people were conformed to the world, with no distinction, except in name, between many of the professed disciples of the meek and lowly Jesus, and unbelievers, my soul felt deep anguish. I saw that Jesus was wounded and put to an open shame. Said the angel, as with sorrow he saw the professed people of God loving the world, partaking of its spirit, and following its fashions, "Cut loose! Cut loose! lest He appoint you your portion with hypocrites and unbelievers outside the city. Your profession will only cause you greater anguish, and your punishment will be greater, because ye knew His will, but did it not."  Messages to Young People p. 129.

 

56.Young ladies are destroying their health because of fashion magazines. They view the ultra thin and feel they are not beautiful unless they themselves fit that mold. The messenger of the Lord saw these things and wrote of them. “God requires that every soul shall be cultivated, refined, elevated, and ennobled. But too often every valuable attainment is neglected for fashionable display and superficial pleasure. Women permit their souls to be starved and dwarfed by fashion, and thus they become a curse to society, rather than a blessing.”--Review and Herald, December 6, 1881. “Demoralizing extravagance prevails everywhere, and souls are going to ruin because of their love of dress and display. The life of nine tenths of those who are devotees of fashion is a living lie. Deception, fraud, is their daily practice; for they wish to appear that which they are not. 57.Men should dress like men and women should dress like women. Women should not where pants like a man. I was taught this for the past four years by a 100 year old Seventh Day Adventist woman named Mildred Parks.  “There is still another style of dress which will be adopted by a class of so-called dress reformers. They will imitate the opposite sex, as nearly as possible. They will wear the cap, pants, vest, coat, and boots, the last of which (the boots) is the most sensible part of the costume. Those who adopt and advocate this style of dress, are carrying the so-called dress reform to very objectionable lengths. Confusion will be the result. Some  who adopt this costume may be correct in their views in general upon the health question, and they could be instrumental in accomplishing vastly more good if they did not carry the matter of dress to such extremes.  In this style of dress God's order has been reversed, and his special directions disregarded. Deut. xxii, 5. "The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God." This style of dress, God would not have his people adopt. It is not modest apparel, and is not at all fitting for modest, humble females who profess to be Christ's followers. God's prohibitions are lightly regarded by all who would advocate the doing away of the distinction of dress between males and females. The extreme positions taken by some dress-reformers upon this subject cripple their influence. God designed there should be a plain distinction between male and female dress, and has considered the matter of sufficient importance to give explicit directions in regard to it; for the same dress worn by both sexes would cause confusion, and great increase of crime. St. Paul would utter a rebuke, were he alive, and should behold females professing Godliness with this style of dress. "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; but (which becometh women professing Godliness) with good works." The mass of professed Christians utterly disregard the teachings of the Apostles, and wear gold, pearls and costly array.” Selected Messages Book 2 pp. 477,478.

 

58.”Mrs. D, a lady occupying a position in the institution, was visiting at Sr. _____'s room one day, when the latter took out of her trunk a gold necklace and chain, and said she wished to dispose of this jewelry and put the proceeds into the Lord's treasury. Said the other, "Why do you sell it? I would wear it if it was mine." "Why," replied Sr. _____, "when I received the truth, I was taught that all these things must be laid aside. Surely they are contrary to the teachings of God's Word." And she cited her hearer to the words of the apostles, Paul and Peter, upon this point, "In like manner, also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broidered hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; but, as becometh women professing godliness, with good works." "Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel. But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit." In answer, the lady displayed a gold ring on her finger, given her by an unbeliever, and said she thought it no harm to wear such ornaments. "We are not so particular," said she, "as formerly. Our people have been overscrupulous in their opinions upon the subject of dress. The ladies of this institution wear gold watches and gold chains, and dress like other people. It is not good policy to be singular in our dress; for we cannot exert so much influence."  We inquire, Is this in accordance with the teachings of Christ? Are we to follow the Word of God, or the customs of the world? Our sister decided that it was the safest to adhere to the Bible standard.” Evangelism pp. 270,271.

 

59. “Peter gives valuable instruction concerning the dress of Christian women: "Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; but let it be the hidden man of the , heart in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves." All that we urge is compliance with the injunctions of God's word. Are we Bible readers and followers of Bible teachings? Will we obey God, or conform to the customs of the world? Will we serve God or mammon? Can we expect to enjoy peace of mind and the approval of God while walking directly contrary to the teachings of His word? The apostle Paul exhorts Christians not to be conformed to the world, but to be transformed by the renewing of the mind, "that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." But many who profess to be children of God feel no scruples against conforming to the customs of the world in the wearing of gold and pearls and costly array. Those who are too conscientious to wear these things are regarded as narrow-minded, superstitious, and even fanatical. But it is God who condescends to give us these instructions; they are the declarations of Infinite Wisdom, and those who disregard them do so at their own peril and loss. Those who cling to the ornaments forbidden in God's word cherish pride and vanity in the heart. They desire to attract attention. Their dress says: Look at me; admire me. Thus the vanity inherent in human nature is steadily increasing by indulgence. When the mind is fixed upon pleasing God alone, all the needless embellishments of the person disappear.” Testimonies for the Church Volume 4 p.644,655,

 

60. There is no light in scripture or the Spirit of Prophecy (given through a woman writer) that we are to ordain women to be  elders or pastors. ALL the council inthe Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy says these roles are to be filled by the male gender.  “Jethro further advised that men be appointed to act as "rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens." These were to be "able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness."In harmony with this plan, "Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves." Exodus 18:19-26. Later, when choosing seventy elders to share with him the responsibilities of leadership, Moses was careful to select, as his helpers, men possessing dignity, sound judgment, and experience. In his charge to these elders at the time of their ordination, he outlined some of the qualifications that fit a man to be a wise ruler in the church. "Hear the causes between your brethren," said Moses, "and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him. Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God's." Deuteronomy 1:16, 17.” Acts of the Apostles p. 94.

 

61. Although Christ had many women followers Jesus chose 12 men to be apostles. The Bishop refered to in the Bible is the same as an elder in the Old Testament. He was not the Pastor, he was an under shepherd. “Ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.  For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;   But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;” Titus 1:5-8.Only a man can be a husband. The Bible  never admonishes to ordain women as pastors and elders, only men. “A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;  Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;  One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;   (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)  “In many places we meet men who have been hurried into responsible positions as elders of the church, when they are not qualified for such a position. They have not proper government over themselves. Their influence is not good. The church is in trouble continually in consequence of the defective character of the leader. Hands have been laid too suddenly upon these men.” Gospel Workers pp. 132,133.

 

62.  ALL the apostles and elders were men according to the Spirit of Prophecy. “The "apostles and elders," men of influence and judgment, framed and issued the decree, which was thereupon generally accepted by the Christian churches.” Acts of the Apostles .p. 196. “Let the church appoint pastors or elders who are devoted to the Lord Jesus, and let these men see that officers are chosen who will attend faithfully to the work of gathering in the tithe.” Councils on Stewardship p. 106. The officers referred to are deacons; the men that were to choose the deacons were Pastors and Elders. Arcording to the Testimonies these pastors and Elders are to be men. The Deacons them selves are also to be men according to the Scripture.  Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.” 1 Timothy 3:12. Israel never allowed women to accept the role of rabbi or elder, which are positions of leadership. Women were allowed to speak in assemblies but had to do so under the authority of the rabbi. Messianic Jews to this day obey this holy standard of scripture. 

 

63.The shepard and under shepherd known as pastors and elders as well as deacons were to “be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.” A woman could not fullfill this role. “And thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.” Genesis 3:16. It is the role of the priest of the family (the husband and father) to rule over his house well, this includes his wife. “Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?” Genesis 18:12.  “Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.” That is a new Testament ordinance which was ordained in the Garden of Eden. Lucifer is working hard in our culture through the womens liberation movement to place women in position of authority over men, and thus alter the role of wives teaching them to exercize authority over their husbands.  The women that take this role are in rebellion against God. “But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.” 1 Timothy 2:12. This scripture is not denying the ability of women to teach, or even to preach. Ellen G. White herself was a well known speaker on many occasions. The context of this scripture is rebuking all women that dominate themselves over men, and attempt to exercise control over their husbands. Husbands that allow their wives to dominate them are themselves violating scripture, becoming what is called by the Protestant Bible “effeminate,” (a man assuming female roles or character traits) and will result in perishing out side the gates of the New Jerusalem 1 Corinthians 6:9. Women are not allowed according to scripture to “usurp authority over the man” This command forbids the ordination of women to the role of pastor or elder which are positions of authority, and forbids women in the home to usurp authority over man. The Seventh Day Adventist church must repent of this strange act.

 

64. “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.   For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.   Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.  Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.  For no man ever yet hated his o
