Seventy Weeks of Daniel 9

By: David M. Curtis

Finding the correct starting date for the Seventy Weeks of Daniel 9 is the most essential step in determining a right understanding of this prophecy. If we have the wrong starting date, everything that follows will be incorrect.

Messianic Prophecies

The Messianic prophecies fulfilled by Christ stagger the mind of all who examine them and understand their implications. There are 457 identifying marks in the Old Testament foretold to help identify the Messiah. The Mathematical probabilities of anyone fulfilling just eight prophecies is one in 10^17 (a figure with 17 zeros).

We Need to Put the Christians World-Wide Mission into Perspective

Many sources mention 2.1 billion Christians in the world (about one third of the total population of the planet), but estimating numbers is fraught with difficulties. What is included among the definition of ‘Christian’ is not agreed upon by many of the groups involved. Whilst it is difficult to give a definite answer to the actual number of Christians in the world (estimates range from 2 – 3 billion), Christianity remains the most dominant of the world, and is still growing at an astonishing rate.

Notes on Catholicism

The Reformers were all Catholics at one time. What each of the Reformers experienced was almost overwhelming when when you consider the fact that after centuries of spiritual darkness they came to understand Righteousness by Faith, and began to see all these wonderful truths in the Bible for the first time. This striking contrast with Catholicism, gave them an unbrandished world view about Rome, since the Western Roman Empire was all they knew.

As of October 2009, there are about 1.57 billion Muslims of all ages living in the world today (in more than 200 countries of the world). This represents 23% of an estimated 2009 world population of 6.8 billion people.

Did you notice how Israel is completely surrounded by the most anti-Jewish people on the planet. The closer you get to Israel the more dense the population! That is by the strategic design of the devil; not by mere chance!

Muslims are the most difficult of all people groups on the planet to convert to Christianity. Their beliefs are anti-Jewish, anti-Christian, anti-Bible, and ultimately anti-Christ!

Hinduism is the world’s third largest religion, after Christianity and Islam. It claims about 851 million follower’s approximately 13% of the world’s population. It is the dominant religion in India, Nepal, and among the Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Hindus who live in impoverished zones of India are among the most easy people groups on the planet to persuade to accept Christ. There are many wonderful fully converted Christians in India. If you ever get the opportunity to experience a missionary trip to India you will never be the same again. We encourage teams working in India for brief crusades to make sure they know what they are committing themselves to when they accept Christ.
Besides the fascination with Western Culture when visitors come to their villages, Hindus believe in thousands of gods, and have no problem accepting Jesus as one of many of the gods they already believe in. In order to truly convert them to Christianity it is important that the Hindu truly understands the trinity, and salvation only through Jesus Christ, which means they must renounce all other gods.

So be sure to give a thorough understanding of Salvation only through Christ. More on Hinduism will be added to The Loud Cry Ministry as time allows.

The answer can vary widely depending on how you apportion folks in the world who have to be “closet Buddhists” because of government mandate (e.g. mainland China) or social expectations (e.g. some Christian and Muslim countries). The position of many Buddhist leaders is that you can take on as much or as little of Buddhism as you are comfortable with – there is no “official” level to be a “real” Buddhist identified. By the late Middle Ages, Buddhism had become virtually extinct in India, and although it continued to exist in surrounding countries, its influence was no longer expanding. It is now again gaining strength in India and elsewhere. Estimates of the number of Buddhist followers by scholars range from 230 million to 500 million, with most around 350 million.

Buddhism is a philosophical religion which teaches many virtuous paths to what they consider enlightenment. Ultimately self is its own savior through good works and seeking after a higher level of self denial against ones own “cravings.” The notion of needing a Savior or another Divine Being to “save them” from these cravings is utterly contrary to this religions teachings. It is achieved by reaching a liberated state of Enlightenment (they call bodhi) through following the path laid out by a man they call Buddha who lived and died sometime between the 6th and 4th  centuries B.C. Buddhists accept Jesus as a great spiritual teacher who taught virtue and holiness, but do not accept him as the Son of God. More on Buddhism will be added to The Loud Cry Ministry as time allows.
