The Gospel According to Seventh-day Adventists

No, these verses are not suggested revisions for the next release of The Adventist Clear Word Bible!

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this exercise is to help the Seventh-day Adventists reading these verses to see what the Bible actually says. To aid you in pealing back the veil, and cause you to think.  For instance the Adventist believes the Sabbath is the greatest of all the commandments, and make it the focus of all their teaching, but is this what the Bible says? I hope you will ask your self questions like this, and take this exercise seriously. What is presented in these examples DO NOT REFLECT the way that Adventists would write out these verses, but if the Adventist looks at each example honestly ALL OF THESE EXAMPLES DO LINE UP WITH WHAT ADVENTISTS THINK. All I am doing here is pointing all of this out in a very blunt way to cause you to think, and to perhaps TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT WHAT THE BIBLE ACTUALLY SAYS. Please look up each verse as you move along in this post, and think seriously about the ACTUAL VERSE before you move on. THIS  ARTICLE IS INTENDED TO BE A THOUGHT EXERCISE TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT THE BIBLE ACTUALLY TEACHES ABOUT THE GOSPEL IN STRIKING CONTRAST TO THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS.

EXAMPLE

Romans 5:8-11

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.  And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, BY WHOM WE WILL RECEIVE THE ATONEMENT AFTER 1844!

Actual Verse: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.  And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. Romans 5:8-11

Some examples like John 3:16 in this post, are designed to be totally illustrative in nature, and are given with the sincerest hope that it will cause the Seventh-day Adventists reading this to compare their own beliefs about theology and eschatology to the main issues that are clearly outlined in the Bible itself. After all to the Adventist the good news that has to go to all the world is largely about making a decision for the Sabbath. Something they call the Three Angels Messages. The Sabbath, is at the heart of each of these messages. Starting with its presentation, moving on to a judgment to decide whether or not one has been faithful to it, and then total annihilation for rejecting it. The deciding factor of the end times in the Adventist Eschatology, boils down to whether or not one accepts the Sabbath. Main stream Christian thought is that the dividing issue is whether or not one accepts Jesus Christ. The Adventist would argue that you can’t have one with out the other. Adventists believe that if you reject the “Sabbath Truth” there is no possibility of redemption. So that the Sabbath becomes a vessel of Salvation in the end times, or a message conveying condemnation if you reject it.

Thankfully, under the New Covenant, there is no “dividing wall” (Eph. 2:14,15). This is a primary characteristic of the New Covenant. Sadly, according to Seventh-day Adventist understanding, Jesus Christ is not the unifying factor among God’s elect. Instead, it is the Jewish Sabbath. And the Sabbath itself has become a dividing wall.

The Bible declares that Jesus Christ is the heart of the gospel, but for the Adventists the Sabbath has become an equally important end time message as Jesus Himself. Whether or not you accept the Sabbath is just as important as your decision to accept Christ. More than that, Ellen White taught that the investigative judgment is as important, if not more important than the Cross. Ellen White has exalted two of her pillar teachings to unimaginable heights. The point of this exercise is to make you think! Think about your own beliefs and THINK ABOUT WHAT THESE VERSES IN THE BIBLE REALLY TEACH US. That is what we are trying to achieve in this post.

THE THOUGHT EXERCISES

1 Corinthians 2:2

FOR I DETERMINED NOT TO KNOW ANY THING AMONG YOU, SAVE THE SABBATH DAY, AND KEEPING IT HOLY.

Actual Verse: For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

Galatians 2:16

Knowing that A MAN IS  JUSTIFIED BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW, because we have believed in Jesus Christ. That we might BE JUSTIFIED BY THE DEEDS OF THE LAW, and NOT BY FAITH ALONE, FOR BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW SHALL ALL FLESH BE JUSTIFIED DURING THE INVESTIGATIVE JUDGMENT.

Actual Verse: Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Acts 13:38

Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that THROUGH OBEDIENCE TO THE LAW is preached unto you THE CLEANSING OF YOUR SINS FROM THE HEAVENLY SANCTUARY DURING THE INVESTIGATIVE JUDGMENT:

Actual Verse: Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:

NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD

What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

For my pardon, this I see,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
For my cleansing this my plea,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Nothing can for sin atone,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;

NAUGHT OF GOOD THAT I HAVE DONE,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

This is all my hope and peace,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
This is all my righteousness,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Now by this I’ll overcome—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus,
Now by this I’ll reach my home—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Glory! Glory! This I sing—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus,
All my praise for this I bring—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Romans 10:9

That if thou shalt CONFESS WITH THY MOUTH THE SABBATH DAY, AND SHALT BELIEVE IN THINE HEART THAT GOD HATH SANCTIFIED THE 7TH DAY, thou shalt be saved.

Actual Verse: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

John 14:15

If you love Me, you will KEEP THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

Actual Verse: If ye love me, keep MY commandments.

John 15:12

This is My commandment, REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY TO KEEP IT HOLY.

Actual Verse: This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN DAY, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN THE SABBATH should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Actual Verse: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 3:20

Therefore BY THE DEEDS OF THE LAW SHALL ALL FLESH BE JUSTIFIED IN HIS SIGHT DURING THE INVESTIGATIVE JUDGMENT: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Actual Verse: Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Galatians 3:11

But that EVERY MAN IS JUSTIFIED BY THE LAW IN THE SIGHT OF GOD, it is evident: for, THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY THE LAW.

Actual Verse: But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  Go ye therefore, and TEACH ALL NATIONS THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to OBEY THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, AND ELLEN WHITE: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Actual Verse: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Matthew 5:17-19

Think not that I am come to destroy THE TEN COMMANDMENTS: I am not come to destroy, ( “but to fulfill” OMITTED, JUST AS WE FIND IT IS OMITTED IN MANY EXAMPLES FOUND IN E. G. WHITES WRITINGS – Christ Object Lessons 314 etc.).  For verily I say unto you, EVEN AFTER  HEAVEN AND EARTH PASS, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, (“till all be fulfilled” OMITTED).  Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Actual Verse: Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.  Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Note: “Law and the Prophets” references the BOOKS OF MOSES and the writings of the PROPHETS i.e. the 613 commandments in the Torah and the Messianic prophecies. That is the context here, and not the Ten Commandments exclusively.

Isaiah 8:20

To the TEN COMMANDMENTS and to the TESTIMONY OF ELLEN G. WHITE: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Note: “Law and the Prophets” or “testimony” references the BOOKS OF MOSES and the writings of the PROPHETS i.e. the 613 commandments in the Torah and the prophecies given through the Prophets.

Matthew 22:36-40

Master, which is the great commandment in the law?  Jesus said unto him, THOU SHALT LOVE THE WRITINGS OF ELLEN G. WHITE with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it, THOU SHALT REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY TO KEEP IT HOLY.  On these two commandments hang all THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

Actual Verse: Master, which is the great commandment in the law?  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Revelation 12:17

And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the THE SABBATH, and have ELLEN G. WHITE.

And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Note: “If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. ”  APOSTLE PAUL – 1 Corinthians 14:37.

According to Christ and His Apostles, within a New Covenant setting, the Commandments of God, are to “Love One Another,” and believe Jesus is the Son of God. The writings of the Apostles and the teachings of Christ are focused on this central truth, literally in DOZENS of SCRIPTURES!

And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.  1 John 3:23

2 Corinthians 1:22

THE 144,000 FAITHFUL SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS WILL BE SEALED, and given THE EARNEST OF THE SABBATH THAT WILL BE KEPT IN HEAVEN.

Actual Verse: Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

Ephesians 1:13

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, THE 144,000 FAITHFUL SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS WILL BE SEALED WITH THE SABBATH,

Actual Verse: In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Ephesians 4:30

And DO NOT VIOLATE THE SABBATH DAY, whereby THE 144,000 FAITHFUL SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS WILL BE SEALED unto the day of redemption.

Actual Verse: And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Hebrews 10:10, 14

THROUGH EARNEST EFFORT TO OBEY THE TEN COMMANDMENTS AND ELLEN WHITE YOU WILL BECOME SANCTIFIED SOMEDAY! BY YOUR OWN EARNEST EFFORT TO OBEY THE TEN COMMANDMENTS AND ELLEN WHITE YOU WILL BE MADE PERFECT AFTER YOU HAVE FULLY ACHIEVED YOUR SANCTIFICATION.

Actual Verse: By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.  For by one offering he hath (past tense) perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

Note: “Sanctification is not the work of a moment, an hour, a day, but of a lifetime.” Ellen White, Acts of the Apostles p. 560. This teaching is in defiance against the Gospel of Jesus Christ given us freely by the Cross according to Hebrews 10:10.

“By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Hebrews 10:10.

Attempting to be sanctified by one’s own works.” Point #3 of Reformation Theology: 12 Points of Legalism

Hebrews 5:6

As he saith also in another place, THOU ART A PRIEST AFTER THE ORDER OF THE LEVITICAL PRIESTHOOD FOREVER SO THAT YOU CAN PERFORM THE SERVICES OF THE FIRST COMPARTMENT OF THE HEAVENLY SANCTUARY UNTIL 1844.

Actual Verse: As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Note: The Levitcal Priesthood offered sacrifices continually, year by year. Melchizedek received tithe from Abraham ONCE. Hebrews 9 &10 emphasizes the work of Jesus Christ as our high priest occurred ONCE for all time, not continually. The investigative judgment theory has Christ doing His High Priestly work continually since 1844. Please read Hebrews 9 &10, and you will find this is precisely the point in direct context to Jesus Christ fulfilling the Day of Atonement in heaven.

TAKE A LONG HARD LOOK AT VERSES 11-12 AND COMPARE IT WITH 25-26, AND VERSE 7. THERE IS NO MISTAKE, THE HOLY PLACE IN VERSE 12 IS THE MOST HOLY, ON THE ANTI-TYPICAL DAY OF ATONEMENT. THE CONTEXT BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER SHOWS THE CONTINUITY OF THIS FACT THROUGH OUT THIS CHAPTER.

1 Corinthians 6:11

And such were some of you: but YE WILL BE WASHED AFTER 1844, but YE WILL BE SANCTIFIED AFTER A LIFE TIME OF EARNEST EFFORT TO OBEY THE LAW, but ye WILL RETAIN YOUR JUSTIFICATION THROUGH THE OBSERVANCE OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, AND ESPECIALLY THE SABBATH DAY.

Actual Verse: And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Romans 3:28

Therefore we conclude that A MAN WILL BE JUSTIFIED DURING THE INVESTIGATIVE JUDGMENT, BY THE DEEDS OF THE LAW.

Actual Verse: Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

2 Timothy 4:1

I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, WHO SHALL JUDGE THE QUICK AND THE DEAD DURING THE INVESTIGATIVE JUDGMENT THAT BEGINS IN 1844;

Actual Verse: I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

Romans 5:9-10

Much more then, being now justified by his blood, WE SHALL BE SAVED FROM WRATH THROUGH KEEPING THE SABBATH (Rev 14:9-11 from the Adventist perspective). For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, WE SHALL RETAIN OUR SALVATION THROUGH THE LAW.

Actual Verse: Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

1 Corinthians 1:2

Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, TO THEM THAT WILL BE SANCTIFIED THROUGH THEIR OWN PERSISTENT AND EARNEST EFFORT TO OBEY THE LAW, called to be saints, WITH ALL THAT IN EVERY PLACE OBEY THE SABBATH:

Actual Verse: Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

Matthew 11:28-30

Come unto me, all YE THAT LABOR SIX DAYS A WEEK and are heavy laden, AND I WILL GIVE YOU THE SABBATH. TAKE THE SABBATH, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find that THE SABBATH IS A GREAT WAY TO FIND REST UNTO YOUR SOULS. For my SABBATH is easy, and my burden is light.

Actual Verse: Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Romans 5:20

Moreover the law entered, THAT OUR OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS MIGHT ABOUND DURING THE INVESTIGATIVE JUDGMENT WHEN WE OURSELVES ARE SHOWN TO BE IN PERFECT OBEDIENCE TO IT. WHERE OUR OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS ABOUNDED, grace did much more abound:

Actual Verse: Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

2 Timothy 1:9

WHO HATH TAUGHT US THAT “WE SHOULD NEVER DARE SAY THAT WE ARE SAVED,” and called us with an holy calling, ACCORDING TO OUR OWN GOOD WORKS, AND according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Actual Verse: Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and DURING THE INVESTIGATIVE JUDGMENT IT WILL BE OF YOURSELVES: AND BY YOUR OWN PERFECT OBEDIENCE TO THE LAW, BUT EVEN SO, MAKE SURE THAT NO ONE SHOULD BOAST.

Actual Verse: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Romans 10:4-5

For CHRIST IS THE BEGINNING OF THE LAW for righteousness to every one that believeth. For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

Actual Verse: For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.  For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. (Compare to Galatians 3:10)

Galatians 3:10

FOR AS MANY AS ARE OF THE WORKS OF THE LAW ARE UNDER A BLESSING : FOR IT IS WRITTEN, BLESSED IS EVERY ONE THAT CONTINUETH IN ALL THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW TO DO THEM.

Actual Verse: For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

Romans 6:14

For sin shall not have dominion over you: FOR YE ARE NOT ONLY UNDER GRACE BUT ARE ALSO UNDER THE LAW.

Actual Verse: For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Acts 4:12

Neither is there salvation in any other DAY: for there is none other DAY under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Actual Verse: Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Deuteronomy 5:3, 4

THE LORD MADE THIS COVENANT WITH OUR FATHERS , AND with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day. The Lord talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire.

Actual Verse: The Lord made NOT this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day. The Lord talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire.

Luke 16:16

The law and the prophets were until John: since that time THE TEN COMMANDMENTS ARE PREACHED, and every man OUGHT TO KEEP THEM.

Actual Verse: The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.

John 1:17

For the law was given by Moses, AND THE TEN COMMANDMENTS ALSO CAME by Jesus Christ.

Actual Verse: For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Romans 7:4

Wherefore, my brethren, YE ALSO ARE BECOME ALIVE TO THE LAW BY THE BODY OF CHRIST; THAT YE SHOULD BE MARRIED TO HIM, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Actual Verse: Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

2 Corinthians 3:7,8

But if THE MINISTRATION OF LIFE, WRITTEN AND EN GRAVEN IN STONES, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; WHICH GLORY WAS TO BE EVERLASTING: How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?

Actual Verse: But if the ministration of death, written and en graven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?

Galatians 2:19

For THROUGH JESUS CHRIST I AM ALIVE TO THE LAW, that I might live unto God.

For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

Galatians 3:19

Wherefore then serveth the law? IT ALWAYS EXISTED AND ALWAYS WILL; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

Actual Verse: Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
