A KJV Pocket New Testament

After giving out over $100 thousand in EGW literature in the past decade, and now, no longer believing in her writings, I am left asking what should I do for ministry? What literature should I begin to share, since this is a part of my blood so to speak. I am considering buying cases of New Testaments and giving them away. This has caused some interesting feelings, and because of that I want to pose some questions to my Seventh-day Adventist friends. This is a highly personal question for me.

Given the choice to give Steps to Christ, Desire of Ages, Great Controversy or a KJV New Testament,

1. Which do you think is more important to share?
2. Which do you think is more powerful and life changing?
3. Which do you think will present Jesus Christ most clearly?
4 .Which do you think will present the gospel most clearly?

Now imagine that all you have to give a person that you will never see again is a KJV New Testament, how would you feel?

5. Would you be sad that this poor soul will never know the truth, because there is no one there or no other book to explain the Bible to him?

Before you visualize this final question, try your best to view the New Testament ONLY, and remove yourself from everything you have learned within the Adventist church. Do that before you continue.  Finally, imagine this person living behind Communist Russia back when Christianity was forbidden by law. He is alone reading a pocket New Testament Matthew – Revelation with Psalms and Proverbs in the back. He has no influence by any Old Testament books, any other literature or videos, or Bible teachers, and has no connection with any denominations. His favorite books are John, Romans, James and 1 John. Imagine him absolutely loving to study this pocket New Testament for 45 years.

Remember the challenge is to visualize this OUTSIDE the Adventist world view of scripture. That means you need to imagine you know nothing about 1844, the Sabbath, EGW or the Adventist church. They simply do not exist to this man.

If you are capable of looking at this objectively, ask yourself over the coming week or month. What would this man come to believe?

Now imagine he has come to America, which church would he join? We both know he would not become Jehovah’s Witness or Mormon. Catholicism would also be foreign to everything he knew. He would be amazed that anyone even believed in those religions. It would trouble him that so many could become so easily deceived.

Which church would he join – the Seventh-day Adventist, or an Evangelical church? Since you are Seventh-day Adventist everything inside you wants to say your own church, but you know in your gut that is not what this man would choose.

Now let us Move onto our next point of interest.

The foundation, the cornerstone of the church is Jesus Christ. It is built on His Blood and Righteousness and supported alone by the Holy Bible. In a Biblical world view, Christ is the glue that holds the church together, not the writings of Ellen White. His promise to forgive and the save are the cornerstone which provides the church with assurance. The teachings of Christ are the central focus of Christianity. Christians look to the writings of the Apostles in the canon of scripture to better understand the message of Jesus Christ.

The Adventist has a different focus. The writings of Ellen G. White are the glue that holds the SDA church together. The foundations of the Seventh-day Adventist church are deeply rooted in the books and testimonies of Ellen White. Her visions are the cornerstone of assurance to this churches system of faith. Her visions confirmed the early pioneer’s studies and support the peculiar beliefs with in Adventism. Her books built this church. Her interpretations of scripture are of more weight than any other person’s views on planet earth. If you have a quote by Martin Luther and another stating the opposite by Ellen White, the Adventist will side with EGW 10 times out of 10. Martin Luther was a fallible Bible student. Whereas to the Adventist the writings of Ellen White are infallible.

Catholicism does this with the decrees of its popes and councils. Protestantism’s cry in response to this abuse was sola scriptura and the doctrine of the priesthood of ALL believers.

Remember, that if you become emotional in even the slightest way you will miss the whole point of us facing these questions objectively together.

It takes a video, a Bible instructor, a seminar, or a book by EGW to persuade a person of the SDA message. Without these tools a person is completely oblivious these “truths” even exist.

The Adventist believes all his doctrines are Biblical. My question is why does it take the interpretations of videos, Bible instructor’s, seminars and EGW books for anyone else to even see it?

The Catholic churches position during the time of the reformation was that the poor ignorant people would not know how to read the Bible correctly and that they needed the guidance of the Mother Church.

The same is happening within the Mormon Church or even the Jehovah’s Witnesses? That the poor ignorant person given a pocket NT alone could not possibly know how to interpret the Bible correctly without some guidance from Joseph Smith, or the Watch Tower Society?

Can you not honestly see that the same is happening within the Adventist church? That the poor ignorant person given a pocket NT alone could not possibly know how to interpret the Bible correctly without some guidance from  EGW or the Seventh-day Adventist church?

This one thing I am certain of. The TRUTH does not need the “guidance” of any church to teach it! It only requires the Holy Spirit and the reading of the Holy Bible.

John 16:13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Hebrews 8:11
And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

John 4:21
Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

The reformation is based on the PRIESTHOOD OF ALL BELIEVERS

Adventism has reduced the world a bunch of poor ignorant folks that need a SDA Bible Instructor to teach him. So the only ones left that are in the PRIESTHOOD are Seventh-day Adventist. It DENIES the PRIESTHOOD of OTHER MINISTERS calling them apostate Protestants and false shepherds. Just like Catholicism claims it’s Church has the only true priests and calls all others preaching the Bible heretics. I see no difference!

Whether you can see this I do not know, but Ellen White is the mother of the Adventist church, and its members look to her for guidance and direction. They love her as blindly as a child loves his mother. You trust her as a mother.

Imagine that every last page written from Ellen White, every Adventist book, and every video; everything teaching this churches message suddenly vanished and that all the Adventists around the world were suddenly affected by amnesia.

Let’s jump from this thought back to our original questions.

So what did you answer to my opening questions?

We will look at them one last time. I hope we all will think about this for a good long while.

If you honestly feel inside that the EGW books are more important, more clear and more life changing, then whether you have acknowledged this before or not you have actually elevated the writings of EGW above the Bible.

If you said the Pocket New Testament was your answer, then I will challenge you to walk in harmony with your answer, and give out Bible’s the rest of your life instead of EGW! Can’t do it can you? Just does not seem to be as important of a work to you does it? Be honest with yourself!

If these feelings inside you don’t bother you they should. Sharing the Bible is the most important work we can be doing right now.

“Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of EGW?” NO!

Romans 10:17 (KJV)
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by THE WORD OF GOD!”

If you view EGW as the word of God, then it is your Bible.

I have known Adventists that no longer read the Bible and only read EGW. Of course you may even view this as extreme. If you answered EGW over the Pocket NT for even one question then you are heading down that path of elevating her above the Bible and just don’t know it!

Today, my answer is I would give a Pocket New Testament. I believe that a person reading it will come to know Jesus Christ, and put his faith in His Blood and Righteousness, and would come to know his sins have been forgiven. I believe a pocket NT will provide him with EVERYTHING he needs to know to be ready for the Second Coming.

It is my fear that the Seventh-day Adventists reading this will have a difficult time agreeing with what I just said, but he still knows what I said to be the truth.
